Power Insight
See what the electricity in your home costs, what your solar and battery save you, and where every watt comes from — live, in Home Assistant.
Power Insight reads the power sensors you already have — your grid meter, your PV inverter, your battery, and any smart plugs — and turns them into sensors for cost, savings and power flow. Because everything is calculated from live power, it works great with dynamic electricity prices: the numbers always reflect the price you are paying right now.
Carbon-intensity / CO₂ tracking is planned but not yet implemented in this release. The configuration flow may ask for a Grid CO₂ intensity or a CO₂ footprint, but no CO₂ sensors are created yet.
Power Insight is in beta (0.1.0b1). Entity names and options may change
until the 1.0 release.
What you get
Where your power comes from and where it goes — grid, solar, battery and home — in watts and percent.
A live price per kWh across your whole energy mix, the cost per hour, and running totals.
Money earned by exporting solar power, and money saved by using it yourself instead of buying from the grid.
Which source charged your battery, and which mix of grid, solar and battery powers each appliance.
Where to go next
Install from the Marketplace or manually.
Create the hub, pick a sensor set, add your devices.
Set up your grid, solar, batteries and consumers.
What each sensor means and when it appears.
How costs and savings are calculated, in plain words.
Worked example homes with flow diagrams.
Limitations
- Instantaneous power sensors required. Calculations are driven by live power (W/kW/MW) readings, not energy meters. Each PV system, battery, consumer and the grid connection must expose a power sensor.
- One grid connection per entry. A config entry models a single grid connection / energy mix. Two grid connections are modelled as two config entries.
- CO₂ / carbon intensity is not yet implemented. See the note above.
- Consumer entities are still under development.
- Entity names may change until the 1.0 release.
